Welcome Note from HOD

It is with great delight and privilege that I welcome you to the Department of Mass Communication, Covenant University. The department is a powerful nexus made up of world class scholars and academic, that are innovative, creative and quantitative in terms of teaching , researches and community outreach activities. As part of our effort to train student to be expert thinkers and managers in our globalised society, our courses contents and programmes are aimed at student acquiring skills and knowledge that will aid their competence and leadership potential in media industries and other field. To this end, the Department executes a practical-centered programme in three streams or sequences i.e. Online and Print Journalism, Broadcast Journalism and Public Relations/Advertising sequences. The Online and Print journalism students produce and manage the Stream Newspaper, Stream Magazines and Community Stream publications as part of their training programs. Also, the Online and Print journalism students report on the beheard.com website, which provides an online platform for reporting events and happenings in the society. For the broadcasting students, they have the privilege to train with the Department’s state-of-the art studio and radio station (Hebron Fm-88-5fm). Interestingly, the Department also has a journal called the Covenant Journal of Communication, which provide a veritable platform for scholars and students for research outputs.On behalf of the facility, staff and students of the Department, I welcome you to Covenant University, and the Department of Mass Communication. - Dr. Oladokun Omojola (HOD, Mass Communication)

Meet our Students

Students of Covenant University are expected to demonstrate traits of honesty, uprightness and trustworthiness at all times. They must ensure that they are accountable, transparent and open in all their dealings. They shall flag truth as a virtue at all times, particularly in conduct during examinations, obeying the rules and regulations of the University, being spiritually sound, morally upright and having a good conscience.

Highlights in Department

A one-day consultative forum jointly organized by the Department of Mass Communication, Covenant University charged media stakeholders to strictly adhere to the existing professional codes of journalism in its coverage of the 2015 elections. During the forum, the participants reiterated the role of the media in fostering national cohesion, especially during elections, thus urging it on the need to abide by its professional and ethical principles. Representatives drawn from African Council for Communication Education, Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria, National Union of Journalists and communication experts from the host institution attended the forum.
